Cellular shades are generally installed in two ways: inside mount and outside mount.
The inside mount is the most common option. As long as the window has enough depth, you can customize cellular shades according to the window size. For a full blackout effect, side tracks can be added to block all light leakage.
The outside mount installation is mounting the track on the exterior wall or window frame. Prolonged exposure to wind and sun can shorten the lifespan of the blinds. Therefore, for those who need to install cellular shades outside, it is recommended to choose waterproof and mildew-resistant fabrics, as well as stainless steel tracks.
It is very easy to install cellular shades, because the cellular shades are usually custom-made to fit the exact size of your window or door, the shade you receive will already be a perfect match. It typically takes only 15 to 30 minutes, but you may need a few tools: a pencil, electric drill, and measuring tape.
Simple installation steps:
1. Use a measuring tape to measure the length of the window frame or wall, then divide it evenly into 3–5 sections.
2. Mark the bracket installation points with a pencil.
3. Use an electric drill to secure the brackets onto the window frame or wall.
4. Snap the cellular shade into the brackets.
5. Open and close the cellular shade to ensure smooth operation.
Note:
Power drill is required during installation. Use by adults is recommended.
Cellular shades can typically last over 10 years, but their actual lifespan depends on the materials used and how they are installed.
If you choose high-quality shades and install them properly inside the window frame, they can easily last 15 years or more. On the other hand, lower-quality shades installed outdoors may only last around 5 years.
We recommend using a soft-bristle brush or sponge to clean cellular shades weekly, it can effectively remove surface dust.
We don't recommend take down the cellular shades for soaking and washing. It will damage the coating and honeycomb structure, leading to poor sealing and looks terrible.
The best cellular shades really depend on your needs.
For example, if you want shades for your living room, a $50 manual light-filtering shade might actually suit you better than a $1,000 motorized blackout shade. On the other hand, if you’re looking for shades for a skylight, then a motorized cellular shade is definitely the best option.
